Who we are

Parent Progression was a County wide Project designed and coordinated by Exeter Community Initiatives working in partnership with Action for Children and Devon County Council to provide universal support to families wishing to learn new skills, try out volunteering, work experience or find paid employment.

AFTER PROCESSING OVER 320 REFERRALS IN THESE PAST 3 YEARS AND SUPPORTING MANY PARENTS INTO TRAINING, VOLUNTEERING OR EMPLOYMENT, THE PARENT PROGRESSION SERVICE IS COMING TO AN END ON 31st MARCH 2021.

End of Parent Progression Provision

Since 2018 Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI) has been working with Action for Children to support parents using Devon’s children’s centres into employment, volunteering or training through the Parent Progression team. This service will be coming to an end on 31 March 2021 and the staff will be transferring into Action for Children.

During these past three years we have set up this new service from scratch, processing over 300 referrals, and working with others to support parents into employment. Rob Wyatt the Regional Director for Action for Children said: ‘Sadly, the challenges presented by the pandemic mean we’ve had to adapt and redesign our resources to best meet the shifting needs of families across Devon. We’ve had an unbelievably successful three years working together [with ECI] shaping high quality, consistent services and I’m incredibly proud of the difference we’ve been able to make to the lives of children and their families in Devon.’

As a result of the forthcoming transfer we will continue to accept referrals up to 31 March 2021. However, due to the time constraints this will be on a much reduced service for any new referrals. For referrals received between now and 31 March we are happy to use our expertise to advise and speak with parents and, if appropriate, signpost those to another service who may be able to provide suitable progression support. We will continue to fully support parents who are currently on our caseload up to 31st March. This transfer does not affect Family Support and applications to Action for Children services can be made in the usual way.

From the whole of the Parent Progression Team, both past and present, we would like to say it has been a privilege to work with Parents and supporting organisations across Devon and we wish you all good fortune for the future.

ECI will continue to work with children and families through the Devon Family Resource project which you can find out about here.  If you have any queries about the Parent Progression Support up to 31st March please contact Rebecca Harris on 07709 596786.
